Just some musing about fandoms
Jun. 9th, 2005 07:43 pmFirst-I am new to the internet Due South fandom, but, the good fanfiction, beautiful icons and some nice music videos aside -I really got a feeling of it yesterday!:)
The only other fandom I really know is the Buffy/Angel one-and it's amazing, too. The X-men fans have also made a good impression. My point here(yep,I even have a point)is that we have a group of people that,on the surface at least, have nothing in common, but the show they like. And yet there's this friendly atmosphere and often,as is the case, willingness to help total strangers, just for the sake of the love for the same series(I'm leaving other types of fandoms out of this atm ;) ).
I don't know if that goes for all fandoms, because I try to stay out of those I'm not really interested in-*g* I'm obsessive enough as it is and I don't need unnecessary distractions ;).But when you are into something as much as I and many other people are into, say Buffy or Due South-you just know that you share a lot more with other such fans than an "Isn't ______ HOT!".That's surely not saying that such sentiments are excluded *g*.
For me,there are some pieces of fiction, that I just feel a deeper connection to than other ones.Due South,Buffy(a lot of Angel, too),Firefly. The Farseer,The Amber Chronicles,The Neverending Story(So what if it's a children's book?:P It will always be among my favourites.Oh,that goes for The Jungle Book, too :] ).Most of them are also not liked by everyone. And I don't know if this won't sound funny or geeky, but I have really come to rely on the fact that if someone likes some of these,it's a good indicator that we'll "get" each other.
