Oh man, fighting a lot doesn't even begin to cover it. They fight about everything and anything: character hate, shipping wars, ad hominem attacks. Sometimes I think all the insane people in the world are part of HP fandom, and they're all very vocal. I wouldn't let it scare you off, though. It can be amusing if you're just watching from the fringes. I've been lurking for about three years now, and nothing bad has happened to me. Besides, there really is some very good fic out there. You have to dig a little (and abandon all hope at fanfiction.net), but it's there.
